These are the environments behind the 20+ years -- where moisture is not an HVAC nuisance but a variable that directly affects product quality, safety, or regulatory compliance. It is the domain fluency I bring to an AI engagement inside a regulated plant.

Food Processing

Bakeries, confectionery, meat and cheese operations, cold storage docks. Condensation on product surfaces causes spoilage, mold, and packaging failure. Cold storage dock dehumidification is one of the highest-ROI applications in food manufacturing.

Pharmaceutical Manufacturing

Solid-dose operations, tablet coating, capsule filling, API handling. FDA/cGMP requires documented environmental control. The humidity-sensitive steps are well-understood; the specification and verification of control are where technical rigor matters most.

Lithium and electrolyte are hygroscopic; moisture causes dendrite formation, cell degradation, and fire risk. Among the most technically demanding desiccant applications in current industrial practice.

Cold Storage & Below-Freezing Dew Point

Freezer entries, blast freeze tunnels, cold chain logistics where the dew point requirement extends below the capability of conventional refrigeration. Desiccant is the right tool here, not an upgrade to a conventional system.

Industrial Manufacturing

Powder handling, chemical manufacturing, precision assembly, and other processes where ambient humidity affects yield, equipment, or product quality. Load calculations that account for infiltration, personnel, and process moisture release -- not rules of thumb.

The engineering background.

Mike Harvey holds a BSEE from the University at Buffalo and an MBA, with PMP certification. He spent 20+ years in industrial desiccant dehumidification -- starting in field troubleshooting, moving through design and applications engineering, sales, and operations leadership before founding Harvey Consultancy LLC in 2022.

He has engineered desiccant and hybrid desiccant-refrigeration systems for some of the largest food and pharmaceutical manufacturers in the world, with installations across North America, Europe, Japan, Singapore, and Taiwan. He is also co-founder of Desiccant Air Solutions, the applied desiccant engineering company that handles dehumidification work today.
